About IB ESS Exam

Available at standard (SL) and higher levels (HL). Students are assessed both externally and internally.The distinction between SL and HL is one of breadth and depth.

IB ESS Exam Calculator Policy

You are allowed to use a four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator on the entire IB ESS Exam–including both the multiple-choice and free response sections.

External Assessment Overview

All students will only sit two external examinations.

Paper 1 Students will analyze and evaluate data from an unfamiliar case study presented in various formats. All questions must be answered.

Paper 2A Includes short-answer and data-response questions.

Paper 2B Involves structured essay questions with limited choice.

SL- 75% & HL- 80%

Paper 1- 25% & Paper 2- 50%(SL)
